Our u13s bowed out of the championship at the quarter final stage this evening away to Clarecastle.
Miltown playing with the aid of a strong breeze started well however were unable to convert their possession into scores and were wasteful with a number of attacking opportunities. At the other end, the physically stronger Clarecastle side struck for a number of well taken goals and were very efficient from their attacks. A solitary Eamon Devanney point was all the youthful Miltown side had to show at the break as they trailed on a scoreline of 4-2 to 0-1.
In the second half, Miltown improved their performance and continued to work hard until the very end. Despite playing against the wind, Miltown narrowed the deficit with well taken points from Sean Toomey and Fergal Queally. A well worked team move saw Ronan Killeen powerfully finish to the net for Miltown however unfortunately further goals were to be denied with Evan O'Loughlin hitting the post from the penalty spot and Adam Torpey also hitting the woodwork after a good save from the Clarecastle goalkeeper. A late Evan O'Loughlin point meant the Clarecastle prevailed over the young Miltown side on a scoreline of 5-6 to 1-6.
Again Miltown used all available players, lining out as follows: Garrett Barry; Orán Meade, Fionn Reidy; Ronan Killeen, Josh Flynn, Eli Downes; Fergal Queally (captain) and Micheal Toomey; Cillian Sexton, Eamon Devanney, Micheal Neylon; Gearoid Keavey, Evan O'Loughlin. Subs: Sean Toomey, Josh Hehir, Dylan Cahill, Riain O'Malley, Matthew Kearney, Adam Torpey, Bríon Dennehy.
Hard luck to all involved, players and management. The u13s championship campaign has finished now and most panel members will be playing for the u15s, u12s and u11s in the coming weeks while the u13s will continue to train across the summer.
