Our Club, County & National flags fly at half mast today in Hennessy Memorial Park as we mourn the loss of not only a great Miltown man , but a man who made a huge impact on the GAA in general.
Noel was born in Miltown Malbay .He was educated at the local National school and CBS Ennistymon and after graduating from Military College he served his country for 40 years retiring with the rank of Lt.Colonel in the Defence Forces.
He won two County Senior Football championships with Miltown in 1953 & 1959 and represented Clare at Juvenile and Junior levels. He was Club Treasurer for 12 years and was County Board delegate for a long number of years. Noel was manager of the Clare Senior Football team for three terms and was a selector when Clare won the Munster Final in 1992.
He was elected vice Chairman of the Munster Council in 1992 and became Chairman in 1995. He also served as Chairman of the Councils Development Committee and Coaching & Games Football Development Committee.
Noel was elected Trustee of Cumann Luthchleas Gael in 2000 & was a member of the Management Committee for three years. He also served as chairman of the Amateur Status Committee, National Football Development Committee, and was also a member of the Disciplinary Rules Workgroup & the Railway Cup Work Group and competition he supported vigorously.
He gave a lifetime of service to the GAA and was a forward thinking and visionary administrator.
Above all he was always a wonderful Miltown St.Josephs GAA man.
He was also an accomplished basketball player and golfer and served as a Lifeguard at Spanish point beach for a number of years.
The club will co-ordinate a guard of honour on Thursday afternoon while abiding by COVID-19 HSE guidelines. People are asked to attend if within 2km radius of football pitch and maintaining social distancing at all times. Anyone available is asked to convene at the football pitch for 4:15pm. The socially distanced guard of honour will be on the footpath along by the wall on the Spanish Point Road as the cortége will pass here on its way to the graceyard in Quilty. All attending are requested to wear club colours.
Noel is survived by his wife Ursula , son Carl, daughters Lisa & Noelle. The club executive and all our members would like to extend our sincere sympathies at this difficult time.
