2018 drew to a close for our senior team yesterday with a disappointing finish which saw them lose to KIB in the final of the O’Gorman Cup on a score-line of 1-15 to 1-10 after extra time.

In a tight scrappy first half, Miltown lost Oisin Looney to injury after five minutes with Ger Malone scoring from the resulting free. A further Ger Malone point and an impressive point from Tayto were the only two further scores from Miltown as they entered trailing at the break by four points.

Miltown started well in the second half and an early Sean Malone goal reduced the gap to the minimum. Both teams continued to trade scores with Miltown’s points coming from Sean Malone, Graham Kelly, Tayto, Darragh McDonagh and Conor Cleary. After KIB had been reduced to 14 men, the game drew to a close with Miltown trailing by a solitary point. Deep into injury time, Conor Cleary stepped up with a point free from an acute angle to send the game to extra time on a score line of 1-9 to 0-12.

KIB started well at the beginning of extra time edging into an early lead. Graham Kelly was then controversially sent off for his second yellow card, despite him receiving his initial yellow card in normal time. As the Miltown players & mgmt. protested to the referee, KIB took a quick free which resulted in them finishing to the back of the Miltown net at the end of a well worked move. With their man advantage, KIB edged to their five point victory as extra time drew to a close.
