2023 Junior A Championship Round 1

Miltown 2-11 Cooraclare 3-9

Our Junior A side fell to an agonising one-point defeat to Cooraclare in Quilty on Monday in the opening round of the championship.

Patrick Green was in the thick of the action early on as he contributed all Milltown’s scores in the opening quarter ensuring a lead of 1-2 to 0-3 after 15 mins. Miltown kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second quarter with points from Cillian Keavey, Ger Malone, Cormac Devitt, Cormac O’Loughlin and another from Patrick Green leaving the half time score Miltown 1-7 Cooraclare 0-7.

The second half saw Cooraclare race out of the blocks with an early goal to level matters before a quick point in reply from Patrick Green ensured Miltown stayed in front. Points from Cillian Keavey & Conal Meade followed before a Liam Hehir goal after great work from Ger Malone gave Miltown a six point cushion with 13 mins to go. A Cooraclare goal from the penalty spot with 10 minutes remaining setup a tight finish as Miltowns defence came under increasing pressure. As the game entered injury Cooraclare found the back of the net to level matters and a point in the 64th minute gave Cooraclare the win at the final whistle
