O’Gorman Cup

Result: Miltown 0-13 Kildysart 1-7

Miltown captured their first O’Gorman Cup in Doonbeg on Saturday evening when a strong second half display saw them emerge victorious over Kildysart. The first half was a slow burner as far as Miltown were concerned as Kildysart held the upper hand for most of the half in terms of possession and scoring. Despite a first minute point from Cormac Murray Miltown found scores hard to come by for the rest of the half and a Kildysart goal ensured the blues led 1-6 to 0-5 as John O’Connell blew the half time whistle.

Miltowns scores in the first half came from Cormac Murray (2) and Cian Mahony (3).

The second half saw a much-improved performance from Miltown as they took control in all sectors of the pitch and put the Kildysart defence under severe pressure for long periods. Darragh MC Donagh began the fightback with a fine score from play and this was followed by two quick fire frees from Cian Mahony to reduce the deficit to a single score with 10 minutes gone in the second half. Goalkeeper mark Cunningham struck the equalizer with a fine strike from a 45 before captain Enda O’Gorman put the lads a point up with a point from play with 12 minutes remaining. Miltown held the initiative to the end and scores from Cian Mahony (2) & Cormac Murray ensured a four-point lead as time ticked away. Kildysart then got their first score of the second half from a free, the well drilled & disciplined Miltown defence keeping the opposition scoreless for 32 minutes.

The final whistle saw Miltown crowned 2023 O’Gorman Cup winners as captain Enda O’Gorman received the cup to add to the Garry cup victory. Cian Mahony received the award for Man of the match as attention now turns to the first round of the Senior Championship in 2 weeks.
