The seniors continued their unbeaten run with a win over Doonbeg in the O'Gorman Cup this evening at Hennessy Memorial Park.
In difficult conditions, Miltown started well with am early goal from Oisin Looney. Points from Gearoid Curtin, Cormac Murray and Ger Malone extended the lead before Doonbeg struck for their goal. Cormac Murray finished powerfully to the net for Miltown's second goal before a key moment arrived in the first half when Doonbeg were awarded a penalty. Seán O'Brien dived to his right to expertly save Paul Dillon's penalty while Miltown continued to stretch their lead with points from the boot of Cormac Murray. As the first half drew to a close, Brian Curtin and Ger Malone combined for a well worked move which saw Ger Malone palm to the net for Miltown's third goal ensuring Miltown led at the break on a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-3 after playing with the benefit of a stiff breeze.
The second half was a cagey affair with Miltown's solitary point coming from Paul Frawley at the end of an excellent team move. A strong defensive display after Miltown were reduced to 14 men late on meant Miltown prevailed as winners with a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-7.
