Our seniors bowed out of the senior championship yesterday following defeat to St Breckans in Cusack Park.

Our opposition started well and were awarded an early penalty which they dispatched to the net. Eoin Cleary reduced the deficit with two early points however further points from St Breckans ensured they led at the water break on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-2. An improved 2nd quarter from Miltown with well taken points from Micheal Murray, Eoin Cleary, Conor Cleary and Cormac Murray meant Miltown trailed by two points at the break on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-7.

An early Conor Cleary point reduced the gap to the minimum before Colin Hehir left the field with a shoulder injury. St Breckans extended their lead to two points before Seanie Malone received a 2nd yellow and Miltown were reduced to fourteen men. Eoin Cleary and Micheal Murray exchanged points with St Breckans and this meant that Miltown trailed at the 2nd water break on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-10. The impressive Lisdoonvarna side struck for two final quarter goals to extend their lead while Miltown were reduced to 13 men when Gordon Kelly was dismissed for a 2nd yellow card. Late points from Cormac Murray and Eoin Curtin reduced the deficit however St Breckans ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-12.

Miltown lined out as follows: Sean O’Brien (captain); Tayto O’Brien, Gordon Kelly, Seanie Malone; Enda O’Gorman, Gearoid Curtin, Colin Hehir; Oisin Looney and Conor Cleary; Micheal Murray, Eoin Cleary, Cormac Murray; Cian Mahony, Darragh McDonagh, Brian Curtin. Subs: Kieran Malone, Graham Kelly, Eoin Curtin, Euan Reidy, Jamesie O’Connor.

Scorers: Eoin Cleary 0-4, Cormac Murray 0-3, Conor Cleary and Micheal Murray 0-2 each, Eoin Curtin 0-1.

This quarter final defeat marked a disappointing end to the year for our seniors which saw them unable to regain Jack Daly but retain the Cusack Cup earlier this year.

Many thanks to Michael Neylon, all the players, management, and backroom staff for all of their efforts throughout 2021.

For a number of our younger senior panelists, their focus will now switch to the u21s which we understand will commence in the coming weeks.
