Our seniors retained the Cusack Cup last night with victory at home against Clondegad ensuring they emerged top of the division 1 table.
Clondegad struck for the matchs first score before Cian Mahony opened Miltowns account with a well taken point. This was quickly followed by a point from Kevin Keavey before a powerful finish from Eoin Cleary nestled into the top corner for the game's first goal. Clondegad soon struck for their own goal before points from Cian Mahony, Darragh McDonagh, Oisin Looney, Eoin Cleary and Kieran Malone ensured Miltown led at the break on a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-6.
Eoin Cleary took control in the 2nd half and scored five points for Miltown which ensure they led at the 2nd water break on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-8. Clondegad continued to try hard and had narrowed the gap to four points as the game drew to a close despite a further Eoin Cleary point. Eoin was to have the final say though as he spotted and executed an audacious chip over the Clondegad goalkeeper from 40 yards out on the sideline which nestled into the Clondegad net for his second goal. This ensured Miltown prevailed on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-11.
Miltown lined out as follows: Sean O'Brien; Euan Reidy (captain), Seanie Malone, Aidan McGuane; Micheal Murray, Gordon Kelly, Enda O Gorman; Darragh McDonagh and Oisin Looney; Kieran Malone, Eoin Cleary, Jamesie O Connor; Kevin Keavey, Brian Curtin, Cian Mahony.
