In front of a Covid19 restricted crowd this evening, our u14s commenced their championship campaign with a defeat away to Cooraclare. Miltown started well against the breeze with early points from Ralph Whelehan and Darragh Hogan, leading at the first half water break on a scoreline of 0-3 to 0-2. Cooraclare started better after the water break and struck for a goal and two points. As half time struck, Cian Cunningham reduced the deficit to a solitary point when he scored a great goal with a powerful finish to the top corner of the net after a well worked move.
Cooraclare started the second half with an early goal however Miltown regained their composure with points from Dominic Griffin and Darragh Hogan. Quick thinking from Darragh Hogan from a free saw Conor Neylon presented with a goal opportunity which he expertly finished to the net. This followed by a Stephen Murphy point saw Miltown lead at the second half water break. Again Cooraclare started well after water break quickly scoring two goals and four points. A consolidation Darragh Hogan point meant Cooraclare emerged victorious on a scoreline of 4-7 to 2-7. Despite the loss, Miltown will have learnt a lot from their opening championship game which saw all available panellists see game time including a number of u12s.
