Hennessy Memorial Park hosted Munster club championship action this afternoon when the Waterford champions Rathgormack came to take on our Seniors in the Munster SFC quarter final.
In front of the crowd of 1,816, Miltown started well with Kieran Malone opening the scoring. Eoin Cleary and Kieran Malone traded points with their Waterford counterparts before the key moment arrived in the first half. Miltown struck for the game's only goal when Eoin Cleary expertly finished to the net after a great pass from Seanie Malone. This ensured Miltown led at the break on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-6.
Kieran Malone again opened the scoring in the second half while Eoin Cleary scored two further points as the Waterford men were reduced to 14 men as the 2nd half drew to a close. Rathgormack kept fighting and levelled the game with a free, ensuring the game would progress to extra time as normal time finished on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-10.
Miltown started well in extra time with early points from Eoin Cleary and Cormac Murray ensuring they led at the break on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-10. In the second half Kieran Malone extended the lead and despite a late Rathgormack fightback, a strong defensive performance ensured Miltown prevailed on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-11. Next up for our Seniors is a home semi final against Tipperary champions, Clonmel Commercials next Sunday 17th at 1:30pm.
