Our Seniors advanced to the knockout stages of the Cusack Cup last night with a nine point victory away to Lissycasey.
Our Seniors started well and raced into an early lead with fine points from Graham Kelly, Eoin Cleary and Kieran Malone. Against the run of play, Lissycasey then struck back for a well worked goal to reduce Miltown’s lead to the minimum. Lissycasey continued to press for their second goal however a fine save from Sean O’Brien and a goal line clearance from Gearoid Curtin ensured Miltown did not concede another. Well taken points from Kieran Malone, Eoin Cleary, Seanie Malone and Aidan McGuane ensured that our Seniors continued to push ahead while a fisted Graham Kelly goal ensured Miltown led at the break on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-1.
Lissycasey started the second half well and reduced the margin with a number of well taken points. However further points from Kieran Malone, Eoin Cleary, Seanie Malone and Gearoid Curtin ensured that Miltown eased out winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-6.
Miltown must wait until the weekend to find out their fate. Depending on other results, they will either advance directly to the final or have to play a semi-final, most likely at home.
