Our Seniors advanced to the Clare SFC championship final after a seven point victory over Cratloe earlier today in Cusack Park.
Both teams began well with Eoin Cleary and Billy Connors exchanging points before Cormac Murray hit the woodwork after a mazy run through the Cratloe defence. Further points from Eoin Cleary, Kevin Keavey, Kieran Malone, Conor Cleary and Cormac Murray ensured Miltown led on a score-line of 0-8 to 0-4 as the game drew close to half time. However as half time approached, Cratloe showed their talent by striking with a well finished goal from Diarmuid Ryan. The first half drama was not over yet, with Darragh McDonagh getting on the end of a Kevin Keavey pass before being dragged to ground by his marker with the referee Rory Hickey awarding Miltown a penalty. Unfortunately the Cratloe goal keeper pulled off a great save from Eoin Cleary’s penalty and ensured that at the break , Miltown led by the minimum on a scoreline of 0-8 to 1-4.
Our seniors started the second half impressively with Cormac Murray expertly finishing to the net after a well worked team move. As the second half progressed, further points from Kieran Malone, Eoin Cleary and Eoin Curtin ensured Miltown controlled the game and emerged victorious on a score-line of 1-15 to 1-8.
Miltown lined out as follows: Sean O’Brien; Aidan McGuane, Enda O’Gorman, Tayto; Jamesie O’Connor, Gordon Kelly, Colin Hehir; Oisin Looney & Conor Cleary; Kieran Malone, Brian Curtin, Kevin Keavey; Cormac Murray, Eoin Cleary, Darragh McDonagh. Subs: Eoin Curtin, Sean Malone, Euan Reidy.
Scorers were: Eoin Cleary 0-8; Cormac Murray 1-1, Eoin Curtin & Kieran Malone 0-2 each; Kevin Keavey and Conor Cleary 0-1 each.
Focus now switches to the county final against an impressive Ennistymon side who dethroned the reigning champions KIB yesterday. The final is scheduled to take place on the 28th October in Cusack Park.
Well done to all involved and good luck in the final – keep up the good work.
