Unfortunately earlier today in Cusack Park, our u14s were beaten by Clondegad in the U14 B Championship final on a scoreline of 4-3 to 1-10.
Both teams started nervously with Clondegad edging into an early lead however Miltown battled back with a goal from Cillian Keavey and points from both Cillian and Sean McMahon. When the teams left the field at half time, the scoreline was Clondegad 1-3 to Miltown 1-2.
Clondegad started the second half very impressively with three goals, including one from the penalty spot, and with ten mins to go Miltown trailed 4-3 to 1-5. As the game entered into its final stages, Miltown showed great heart and character with five unanswered points to trail by two in injury time. Unfortunately their push to claim the vital goal was unsuccessful and Clondegad emerged victorious.
Miltown lined out: James Anastasia; Cormac Byrne, Sydney Smith, Patrick Greene; Tim Lenihan, Adam Burke, Eamon Devereaux; Euan Lineen and Sean McMahon; Sean Hayes, Cillian Keavey, Sean Neylon; Callum Curtin, Diarmuid O Sullivan (capt), Paul Frawley. Subs: Ralph Whelehan, Darragh Hogan.
Scorers were: Sean McMahon 0-6; Cillian Keavey 1-1, Paul Frawley; Diarmuid O Sullivan and Euan Lineen 0-1 each.
Under the management team of Padraig Frawley, Enda O Gorman, Cormac Murray and Declan Keavey, great progress has been made by this group of players this year, right from their first competitive game in Feile on the 4th May until today. Throughout the year, these players have displayed great defensive skills and excellent attacking prowess to accumulate a number of impressive wins, especially during their exceptional performance in their semi final win over Clooney Quin. Hopefully now, they can continue to represent our club with pride and go one step further in the u16 grade in two years time.
