Our Junior side qualified for the semi finals of this years championship when their superior firepower and fitness eventually overcame a stubborn Eire Og side in a game played in perfect conditions in Corofin on Sunday.
The first half was a dour affair with both sides struggling to gain the upper hand and missed chances to the fore. Eoin Devenney opened Miltowns account with a free after three minutes with Oisin McCarthy doubling the lead on eight minutes from play. Eoin Devenney added to his tally with a point from play, Miltown were awarded a penalty but Eoin Devenneys well struck effort went narrowly wide to leave the sides level at the break three points a piece.
Tim Lenihan got Miltown off to the perfect start in the second half when he knocked the ball into the Eire Og net from close range. Eire Og replied with a goal of their own soon after but from then on Miltown found their shooting boots to pull away as the half wore on. Oisin McCarthy scored Miltowns fourth point before going on a mazy run through the Eire Og rearguard to finish impressively to the back of the net. Points from Eoin Devenney and Paddy Greene extended the lead before centre back Euan Reidy struck a cracking effort into the top corner to put the game beyond doubt. Conal Meade added a goal and a point in quick succession followed by a point from Podge Deveraux. Diarmaid Meade rounded off the scoring with Miltowns fifth goal to ensure progression to the semi final stages in two week s time.
