Our Junior C side got their Championship campaign up and running with a hard fought draw with the Banner in the picturesque surroundings of Coolmeen on Saturday. Fielding a vastly experienced side sprinkled with some up and coming young talent Miltown started well and early scores from Benny O'Reilly (2) and Kevin McMahon gave them a two point lead playing with the aid of the breeze. Darragh Flynn raiding from wing back knocked over a cracking two point effort as both sides battled hard to create chances , the Miltown midfield and defence putting up stern resistance against an athletic Banner side. Benny O'Reilly from a free in the 26th minute made it Miltown 0-6 to the Banners 0-3 at half time.
The Banner began the second half strongly with two early points before the lively James Cogan scored Miltowns first point of the half from play after 9 minutes. The Banner continued to press hard but came up against a hardworking , stubborn Miltown defensive effort. The Banner equalised in the 20th minute before Benny O'Reilly restored Miltowns lead with five to go from a free. The banner knocked over the equalising score after nearly seven minutes of injury time !!!! to leave the sides level at the final whistle.
