Our Junior B side began their championship campaign with a narrow defeat to Ennistymon on Bank Holiday Monday in Lisdoonvarna. Playing with the aid of a noticeable breeze Cillian Keavey got Miltown up and running with a fine two point effort. Oisin McCarthy finished well to the back of the net after another long range effort caused confusion in the defence giving Miltown a three point lead after eight minutes. Both sides struggled to create chances as the half wore on with Cillian Keavey from a free Paul Keane from play and a free from Paddy Greene accounting for the Miltown scores with Ennistymon clocking up six points of their own. An Ennistymon goal on the thirty minute mark proved to be a decisive score and gave them a one point lead at the whistle 1-6 to 1-5.
Facing into the wind Miltown found themselves further behind with a second Ennistymon goal after two minutes followed by two points. To their credit Miltown battled back well with Paddy Greene getting them up and running with a free before midfielder Tim Lenihan palmed the ball to the back of the Ennistymon net to further reduce the arrears 2-8 to 2-6 after eleven minutes. Despite mounting pressure on the opposition defence Miltown found scores hard to come by with two pointed frees from Paddy Greene in the twenty third and twenty fifth minutes and point from play from Oisin mcCarthy on the half hour mark proving insufficent as Ennistymon held on for a one point victory
