Clare Senior Football Championship Round 1 St.Josephs Miltown v Doonbeg @ Quilty  01/08/2026

Miltown 1-21
Doonbeg 2-12

Our senior side got their 2026 quest for Jack Daly off to a winning start with victory over Doonbeg in Quilty on Saturday before a large crowd. Doonbeg took the lead early on and were two points up after four minutes. Paul Frawley opened Miltown's account from play before Eoin Cleary levelled matters after ten minutes. A point from team captain Micheal Murray followed by a Eoin Cleary close in free gave Miltown a two point lead, however Doonbeg replied immediately with a point of their own. Doonbeg then struck for a goal and a point from the one play after the referee awarded them a free in after some heated discussion on the Doonbeg goal. Darragh McDonagh got Miltown back on track with a point after twenty four minutes. The sides then traded scores as the half time whistle approached with Miltowns scores coming from an Eoin Cleary  free and a super point from a tight angle from Cormac Murray. Doonbeg now held a three point advantage as the half time whistle sounded. Doonbeg 1-7 to Miltown 0-7.

The large attendance were treated to fine display of football at half time as the U8 sides from Miltown & Doonbeg got a chance to display their skills.

The second half saw Miltown launch a bombardment of long range efforts on the Doonbeg goals, Michael Murray opened the scoring with a point before Cian Mahony struck for the first and second  of five  two point efforts from him in the second half , the halftime deficit becoming a two point lead after three minutes. Doonbeg settled after this opening salvo and scored three points of their own before Cian Mahony continued his streak with two more long range efforts , one from play and one from a placed ball giving Miltown a three point lead with twelve minutes remaining. Eoin Cleary extended the lead with two points and Cormac Murray slotted a 45 as Miltown lead 0-19 to 1-12 with two minutes remaining. Cormac Murray jinked his way through the Doonbeg rearguard to finish impressively to the back of the net before Doonbeg replied with a goal of their own. Fittingly Cian Mahony rounded off the scoring with his fifth two point effort this time from a free as Miltown ran out winners 1-21 to 2-12.
