Anyone who turned up late to Hennessy Memorial park on Wednesday evening and glanced at the scoreboard may have wondered if the scoreline was correct as it showed Miltown ten points up after about 10 minutes. The scoreboard was accurate as Miltown had launched a barrage of two point scores at the visitors with three from Cormac Murray & two from Eoin Cleary establishing a dominant early lead. A Cormac Murray goal from distance rounded of a superb opening quarter with Miltown fourteen points to the good and the visitors yet to score.
St.Breckans finally got off the mark before further scores from Euan Lineen and Eoin Cleary and another long range goal this time from the boot of Ralph Whelehan which skidded off the wet grass gave Miltown a very impressive 2-13 to 0-05 half time lead,
Facing into the strong breeze in the second half Miltown made the ideal start with the impressive Micheal Murray knocking over the opening two scores of the half with Eoin Cleary contributing with a fisted point. The visitors scored two points on the trot before a brilliantly executed interchange of passes between Eoin & Cormac saw the latter strike the bottom corner of the Spanish Point end net for the third goal of the game. Further points from Darragh McDonagh, Gordon Kelly & Ralph Whelehan rounded off the scoring while a well marshalled , hardworking Miltown midfield and defence held the upper hand for the majority of the half restricting the visitors to five points.
