Our u16s bowed out of the championship this evening at the semi final stage with a three point loss against Clondegad, on a scoreline of 2-8 to 2-11.

Miltown started well with Paul Keane scoring a goal after a long mazy run through the Clondegad defence. The physically stronger Clondegad side however powered back and led at half time on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-3.

Our u16s showed great heart at the start of the second half and they were duly rewarded as they took the lead with number of points from a variety of scorers and a penalty expertly finished to the net by Cian Mahony.

As the game entered the final stages, the sides were level however a late Clondegad goal ensured the Ballynacally men progress to the final.

Miltown lined out as follows:  Andrew Skerritt; Adam Burke, Niall Downes, Eoghan Cleary; Cormac Devitt, Damien Devereaux, Callum Curtin; Harry Boyd & Cian Mahony; Gerry Byrne, Gavin Burke, Conall Meade; Diarmuid O'Sullivan, Sean McMahon, Paul Keane. Subs: Euan Lineen, Cillian Keavey, Sean Neylon.

Credit must go to the players and management team of Sean & Liam O'Brien, Gearoid Curtin & Paddy Keane, for their run through the group stages to the semi final. A sequence of 5 wins and 1 loss over their six group matches saw them display some fine attacking skills racking up huge scores and also some very impressive defensive performances including a run of 4 games without conceding a goal.

All this bodes well for their future in the Miltown jersey, including the many on the panel who kick off their u14 championship campaign next month.
