Division 7 League Final
Miltown 0-10
Parteen/Meelick 1-5
Our Junior B side captured the Division 7 league trophy yesterday evening after a hard fought victory over Parteen/Meelick in a game played in what can be best described as challenging conditions in Labasheeda. Playing into a strong wind and driving rain Miltown withstood early Parteen/Meelick pressure to open the scoring with a point from Noel McGuane after 13 minutes following closely by an opposition equaliser. Parteen/Meelick took the lead with a point but were finding scoring opportunities at a premium against a very hardworking disciplined Miltown rearguard. Another Noel McGuane effort brought the teams level before points from Eanna O’Connor & a Gary Egan free gave a Miltown a halftime lead of four points to two.
An early second half point from Gary Egan pushed Miltown further ahead before Parteen/Meelick enjoyed a purple patch of possession and scored 1-2 in the space of 6 minutes to give them a two point lead as the second half wore on. Miltowns experience and workrate soon steadied the ship and scores from Ger Malone & Gary Egan (2) gave Miltown the lead with seven minutes to play. Parteen/Meelick refused to give up and brought the game level again as the final whistle approached. With the game in the melting pot Miltown sub Benny O’Reilly knocked over two fine points and at the final whistle Miltown emerged as 2024 Division 7 league champions on a scoreline of Miltown 0-10 Parteen/Meelick 1-5.
Captain Colm Haugh accepted the trophy from County Board Chairman Kieran Keating and thoughts now turn to the Junior B Championship
