Cusack Cup
Miltown 2-9
Ennistymon 0-10
Our Senior side continued their drive for the Cusack Cup playoffs with a well-deserved victory over table toppers Ennistymon in a game played in Hennessy Memorial Park on Monday evening.
Enjoying the majority of the possession early in the first half Ennistymon found a well drilled Miltown defence difficult to breakdown as Miltown proved more efficient with their scoring chances. Two Cian Mahony frees answered early points from the visitors and as the half wore on both sides traded scores with Dominic Griffin , Cian Mahony & Paul Keane getting on the scoreboard while Ennistymon added two more points to their total to leave it 0-5 to 0-4 as John O’Connell blew the half time whistle in front of a large attendance.
Miltown began the second half strongly and a free from Euan Lineen & a fine point from centre forward Kieran Malone extended the lead to three. Ennistymon got their first score of the second half after 10 minutes but Oisin Looney answered quickly with a point to retain the Miltown lead. Two further points from the visitors reduced the Miltown lead , however Cian Mahony added to his tally and a fine finish from impressive substitute Paul Frawley to the back of the Ennistymon net proved a decisive turning point in the game.
The visitors battled hard but once again came up against a well marshalled, disciplined Miltown defensive effort who limited them to two further points. Miltown finished the game on a high note when a brave finish from Dominic Griffin gave them a second goal to crown an impressive squad performance.
