Our senior side suffered their first defeat of the Cusack Cup when they went down by a single point to Kilmurray Ibrickane in an entertaining game played before a large crowd in Quilty on Saturday evening. The game was barely 90 seconds old before the home side had raced in a 1-1 to no score lead, Miltown however settled quickly and had levelled matters with 1-1 of their own from Cian Mahony before five minutes had elapsed. The scoring rate unsurprisingly dropped a little after the lightning start as both defences tightened up. The sides traded scores for the next 15 minutes as points from Cian Mahony & Euan lineen left it 1-3 a piece with 20 minutes gone. A palmed finish from Gearoid Burke gave Miltown their second goal of the half and a 2-point lead as half time approached. The home side had the final 2 scores of the half to leave things all square on a scoreline of Miltown 2-3 KIB 1-6 as the half time whistle sounded.

The second half saw the sides trade scores early on as two long range frees from Cian Mahony answered 2 scores from the home side and left matters level with 15 minutes to go. KIB then hit a purple patch scoring 3 points in a row before yet another Cian mahony free left 2 between the sides with minutes remaining. Cian continued his fine scoring form with another long range free before captain Enda O’Gorman raiding from centre back brought the teams level as injury time began. The home side however had the final say and a close in free was knocked over to leave the final score Miltown 2-8 KIB 1-12
