Miltown 2-9 Doonbeg 0-16

Our Senior side began their 2024 season with a one point defeat to Doonbeg on Saturday in the first round of the O'Gorman Cup.

Miltown took an early lead with a Darragh McDonagh point from play as both side came to terms with a tricky crossfield wind. Gearoid Curtin found the back of the net after six minutes after a fine team move. Doonbeg replied with 4 points as Miltown had to wait until the 17th minute when Brian Curtin pointed to add to their score. A fine Sean O'Brien save kept the Miltown goal intact as both sides traded points with the Miltown scores coming from Dominic Griffin, Oisin Meade and Paul Keane. Half time saw the home side leading on a scoreline of Miltown 1-5 Doonbeg 0-9.

The second half saw more of the same as both side showed plenty of attacking intent and scored some fine points. Dominic Griffin , Gearoid Burke, and Paul Keane added to the Miltown total but as the game drew to a close Doonbeg enjoyed a five point lead. Miltown however refused to lie down and a point from Darragh Mc Donagh followed by a cracking goal finish from Paul Keane brought the game back to the minimum. Miltown continued to apply considerable pressure to the home defense but the crossbar intervened to deny victory and as the final whistle blew Doonbeg emerged the winners on a scoreline of Miltown 2-9 Doonbeg 0-16.
