Our Senior side qualified for the 2023 Senior Championship ½ final on Sunday after a hard fought victory over a strong Kildysart side in Cusack Park. The first half was a tight affair with Miltown shooting a number of wides as Kildysart took an early lead with two points, one from a free & one from a mark in front of the goals. Cormac Murray opened our account in the 11th minute with a fine score from play, this was quickly followed by a Kieran Malone point as Miltown settled into the game. Kildysart however regained the initiative in the scoring stakes and re-established a two point lead as the half time whistle approached, Cormac Murray got another point from play in first half injury time before a Kildysart point left the half time score Miltown 0-3 Kildysart 0-5.
Miltown started the second half in a determined fashion and early scores from an Oisin Looney long range point, a short range fisted point from Cormac Murray and a curling finish from Kieran Malone gave Miltown a one point lead . Kildysart fought back and regained the lead with 10minutes to go on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-6. Substitute Eoin Cleary levelled matters soon afterwards and we were set for a tense finale. Cormac Murray got the decisive score of the game when he finished cooly to the back of the Kildysart net to give us a 1-7 to 0-8 lead with 4 minutes plus injury time to go. Kildysart threw the kitchen sink, but the experienced Miltown rearguard held firm and a point from Eoin Cleary deep into injury ensured a semi final date in two weeks’ time with Miltown winning 1-8 to 0-8.
