Miltown 1-11 Clondegad 1-09

Our Senior side qualified for the ¼ finals of this years Senior Championship after a hard-fought victory over Clondegad in Cusack Park on Sunday. Miltown opened the scoring after 4 minutes when Cian Mahony knocked over a free from in front of the goals. Both sides had periods of possession but found scores hard to come by until Cormac Murray scored Miltowns second point after 12 minutes. Clondegad finally got on the scoreboard after 20 minutes to leave the minimum between the side before Oisin Looney & Cormac Murray added to the Miltown total. The final few minutes saw a scoring spree as Miltown from a Cian Mahony & a smart fisted point from Paul Keane extended our lead to 4 points. Clondegad added two points in injury time to leave the ½ time score Miltown 0-6 Clondegad 0-4 with all to play for.

Kieran Malone got Miltown off the mark early in the second half with a fine point before another sub Jamesie O’Connor finished smartly to the back of the Clondegad net following a great pass from Darragh McDonagh. Cormac Murray, Kieran Malone & Jamesie O’Connor added to their tally for the game as Clondegad upped their performance and put a well marshalled Miltown defence under pressure. A Clondegad goal with 10 minutes remaining brought the game back into the melting pot but the Miltown’s defense held firm and an injury time point from Man of the Match Conor Cleary ensured a Miltown victory on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-9.
